If you look up to the sky as you drive, you will see different types of clouds in various places. Do you know that those clouds can tell you about the upcoming or exciting weather? Of course, black clouds represent rain, storm, or similar sort of weather. But there is more than that. You can take a look at these cloud types here and see what kind of weather they bring to you. Their names are also interesting as well, check them out!

1Altocumulus

If you wake up on a sunny morning, you will be likely to see altocumulus clouds very often. These clouds represent the areas of rising moist air along with dry and sinking air. It is always a sunny morning or stuffy evening every time these clouds appear.

2Altostratus

This is the type of cloud that you will see every time before rain is about to pour down. The altostratus cloud is a large sheet of clouds that covers a large area of the sky. These clouds carry water droplets and ice crystals with them, and that is why it rains when you see them above you.

3Cirrocumulus

Cirrocumulus clouds are small rounded white puffs that appear in long rows up to 5 kilometers in the sky. If you see this type of cloud, you will be able to know that there is an upcoming rain.

4Cirrostratus

This is the high-level cloud that forms like a veil or thin sheet over the sky. If you drive or walk under the cirrostratus cloud, you will get the sun-halo effect. And that is the sign of a warm front is coming closer.

5Cirrus

It is also the high-level cloud with a feathery and wispy kind of look. These clouds are entirely composed of ice crystals, and they are the first sign of an approaching warm front.

6Cumulus

Our childhood type of cloud, it is the cloud we usually draw when were kids. The puffy cumulus clouds that look as if they travel on their own have flat bottoms and rounded tops. This is a sign of a good day, there will be little to no precipitation when you see these clouds. The perfect cloud of summer, picnic, and adventures.

7Cumulus Congestus

Don’t let this fluffy cotton candy cloud fool you because this is the cloud that leads to a thunderstorm. If there is enough instability, moisture, and lift, this cute cloud will turn into a black cloud.

8Cumulonimbus

The bigger the cumulonimbus cloud gets, the more lighting and thunder it produces in the rain. They might look nice, but they are not that kind at all when their partner “rain” comes.

9Nimbostratus

Here we have the thick and dense stratus clouds that generally produce steady rain or snow. If the sky gets dark, look up and you will see these clouds above you.

10Stratocumulus

The name is from the combination of stratus and cumulus clouds together. This type of cloud is likely to be large, dark, and rounded that usually appears in lines, waves, or groups. They don’t usually produce any precipitation, but when they do, there will be only light rain or snow.

11Stratus

We are all familiar with stratus clouds since they are not really good news at all. If you see stratus clouds on warm days, that means there will be rain coming soon. And if you see these huge gray blankets in the sky on cold days, snow will be coming at any time.

12Wall Clouds

By the look, you can tell that nothing fun is coming toward you. Wall clouds aka Pedestal clouds come in many different shapes and sizes, and all are bad news. These clouds have a high chance of leading to tornadoes, but sometimes they don’t.
