It is currently an endangered breed with vulnerability to extinction, with the current number of 724 breeding mares.

The Zamorano-Leonés is a large donkey that stands 145 centimeters tall on average. It is black or dark bay in color, and it has a massive head with a large muzzle and ears. This breed possesses pale or white hair surrounding its eyes, muzzle, underbelly, and the upper part of its legs. The limbs are strong, the hooves are large, and the tail is remarkably long, and they make great guardians. This donkey has a long and shaggy coat that helps it withstand extreme weather conditions.

It has a sturdy frame with strong and well-aligned limbs, with developed bones and joints for endurance and load-bearing capacity. As for this one, it is a Spanish domestic donkey breed native to the province of Cordoba in Andalusia. In the 18th century, this breed was considered the most prized because it was believed to have descended from the giant Egyptian Pharaoh donkey. The Baudet du Poitou, or Poitevin, or Poitou, is a French donkey breed from the former province of Poitou. In the Middle Ages, owning a Poitou donkey may have been a status symbol among the local French nobility. Back in the mid-1800s, these mules were considered the finest and strongest in France, and between 15,000 and 18,000 were sold annually. The use before was for breeding mules, but later people also used them for agricultural work, driving, or riding. By the mid 20th century, mechanization had become so widespread that breeding work mules no longer made financial sense.
