1Animals With Blue Blood
Some animals bleed blue blood because of the amount of copper protein known as hemocyanin in their body. We might think that the color of octopuses and squids is blue because they are marine animals. Actually, marine animals are not the only animals with blue blood at all. Crustaceans, spiders, squid, octopuses, and some molluscs are born with blue blood, or we just go to the list below for clearer info.
We are so interested in their taste when cooked we don’t recognize that clams are one of the animals with blue blood. Since they also have hemocyanins in their body, their blood color is also blue as well. Not just clams, most mollusks have blue blood like that.
Cuttle Fish, Octopus, and Squid
Having blue blood does not only make these muti-tentacled animals unique but also strong as well. Their blue blood helps them to survive in icy cold water as well as in extreme conditions. With such intelligence, talent, and superpower, they are one of the awesome creatures to ever exist.
Emperor scorpions are the biggest scorpions on earth, but they are not harmful to humans despite their strong venom. The number of hemocyanins in their body is also high which is why their blood color is also blue.
Horseshoe crabs have been dwelling the earth for 450 million years now, and just so you know, they are not crabs. They have blue blood, and scientists use their gift to test drugs and implants for toxins. Their blood has amazing primitive-antibiotics properties which are used for medical breakthroughs.
The interesting thing about lobster is that their colorless blood turns blue when exposed to air. There is also amount of copper presents in their blood, but not strong even to turn it blue unless reacts to air. At the end of the day, lobsters are also one of the animals that don’t have red blood.
This little armadillo bug does not only have blue blood, but their bodies also turn blue when they are sick as well. Cute, isn’t it? Just like most mollusks, snails also have blue blood as well. As for scientists, they call it body fluid that is similar to blood; therefore it functions blood. The color appears as blue because haemocyanini in their bodies work on a complex with copper as oxygen binding atom.
2Animals With Green Blood
For green blooded animals, the protein called chlorocruorin causes such color to happen. Only certain types of reptiles and creatures are born with green blood. It is not like fiction movies that shows creatures that bleed green, this is actually real in real life. There are a few animals in our list, let’s see.
Prasinohaema aka Green Blood says it all about this type of skink. What makes their blood green is the buildup of a liquid called bile. Human also has bile in their body, but it is not enough to turn our blood green at all. Bile is the reason that makes lizard tastes disgusting which is one of the most interesting defense machanism for them.
As for tubeworms, their blood is green because of the protein called Chlorocruorin. This protein turns their blood light green when deoxygenated, and darker green when oxygenated.
3Animals With Purple Blood
It sounds impossible, but anything could happen because violet or purple blood does exist in animal kingdom. There are certain types of animals in shallow ocean that have purple blood, but we have found one; Peanut Worm.
This type of worm has purple blood due to the protein called haemorythrin. The thing is that the blood is purple when carrying oxygen, and it is colorless when deoxygenated.
4Animals With Yellow Blood
Speaking of the impossible, even yellow is the color of blood in animal kingdom. Most insects are born with it, but the thing is that they don’t really have blood since insects don’t have blood vessels. Insects have gooey plasma that keeps them alive which is similar to our blood. Some common insects that we normally see when splattering on our car windshields are many different types of beetles.
5Animals With Clear Blood
Why colors when this fish can bleed colorless blood? It is weird to know that there are animals whose blood is completely clear. When they have no respiratory pigment, their blood has no color. Normally, only animals who live in cold water can handle this kind of condition.
