Speaking of blood, do you know that there are animals that don’t have red blood? Of course you do, octopuses have blue blood; and it is not a new thing anymore.

But there are more than that. Red and blue are not the only color of blood that exist in lives on our beautiful planet earth. 1Animals With Blue Blood

Some animals bleed blue blood because of the amount of copper protein known as hemocyanin in their body. We might think that the color of octopuses and squids is blue because they are marine animals. Actually, marine animals are not the only animals with blue blood at all. For green blooded animals, the protein called chlorocruorin causes such color to happen. Only certain types of reptiles and creatures are born with green blood. Prasinohaema aka Green Blood says it all about this type of skink. What makes their blood green is the buildup of a liquid called bile. Human also has bile in their body, but it is not enough to turn our blood green at all. Bile is the reason that makes lizard tastes disgusting which is one of the most interesting defense machanism for them.

As for tubeworms, their blood is green because of the protein called Chlorocruorin. This protein turns their blood light green when deoxygenated, and darker green when oxygenated.

3Animals With Purple Blood

It sounds impossible, but anything could happen because violet or purple blood does exist in animal kingdom. There are certain types of animals in shallow ocean that have purple blood, but we have found one; Peanut Worm.

This type of worm has purple blood due to the protein called haemorythrin. The thing is that the blood is purple when carrying oxygen, and it is colorless when deoxygenated.

Speaking of the impossible, even yellow is the color of blood in animal kingdom. Most insects are born with it, but the thing is that they don’t really have blood since insects don’t have blood vessels. Insects have gooey plasma that keeps them alive which is similar to our blood. Some common insects that we normally see when splattering on our car windshields are many different types of beetles.

5Animals With Clear Blood

Why colors when this fish can bleed colorless blood? It is weird to know that there are animals whose blood is completely clear. When they have no respiratory pigment, their blood has no color. Normally, only animals who live in cold water can handle this kind of condition. For now, Icefish is the only creature that bleeds clear blood, there might be new discovery in the future we never know.
