What is more relaxing than riding a cruise to sightsee the beautiful islands and sea on your summer vacation? It is relaxing and refreshing, and there are a lot of things to see. Yes, we are talking about Phuket. When it comes to the best places to visit in Phuket, a beautiful island in Thailand, there are a lot. However, there are 6 main tourism sites for you to go if the vacation is short.
People always talk about Phi Phi Islands every time Phuket is mentioned. In fact, it is correct that this mini archipelago is the true beauty of Phuket itself. With the combination of other places on the island, Phuket is one of the best places to go on your holidays. Nature and modern life blend together perfectly well for visitors to explore both day and night.
6 incredible places will be described in detail with pictures below to introduce you to my memorable experience of 3 days in Phuket. All you need is a few days to explore, and it is definitely worth it!
1Phi Phi Islands
Let’s give a quick background of Phi Phi Islands before we get into business. So Phi Phi Islands are the most well-known area in Phuket when searched in Google. But there is more than that. Phi Phi is a group of 6 islands; the main two are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Leave your backpacks in the hotel on Phi Phi Don, and there will be plenty more places to see.
How To Get To Phi Phi Island
It was so difficult at first because I thought that I had to book the cruise or the boat online. Things were easier when I was actually in Phuket. There are a lot of stands that you can book the cruise ticket to Phi Phi Island. You can also find the same service in most hotels as well.
There is a variety of choices of transportation for you to choose from including cruiser, speed boat, express boat, etc. The price of the ticket is between 1000 Baht to 2000 Baht per person, and that includes lunch and the pick-up & drop at your hotel as well.
Tips: You can bargain the price if you are good at it, the lowest is 1000 Baht.
What are the other places to go if I spend the night on Phi Phi Island?
First thing first, you can rent a private boat to go to different islands and bays surrounding Phi Phi Island. The price is from 200 Baht to 500 or 800 Baht per person depends on how far you want to explore. You can spend the whole day going from places to places if you want to, and the price is still the same which is great. There are a some beautiful places that you should go or at least go pass during your boat journey including:
- Krabi Island
Not too far from Phi Phi Island, Krabi is a very wonderful beauty rise from the sea that totally catch your attention. It is a less-than-10-minute boat ride, and the view is totally mesmerizing. You can totally see the bed of the sea through crystal clear water along with white sand powder which is absolutely relaxing.
You can spend some times to snorkel and dive, and the boat driver will wait for you as you enjoy your moment.
- Bamboo Island
Bamboo Island is one among the six islands in Phi Phi archipelago, and it is about 5 kilometers from Phi Phi Don. The best thing to do on Bamboo Island is snorkeling since there are beautiful coral reefs that you can explore. You can either spend the night there in case Phi Phi Don is too crowded, or you can take a day tour on a speed boat.
- Viking Cave
If you love exploring the mystery and the beauty of the cave, Viking Cave must be the most fascinating thing you will see. The cave is located at the bottom of a tall limestone cliff that takes only about 30 minutes by long-tailed boat from Tonsai Bay. The cave is full of interesting things like paintings on the walls of various pictures that tell different stories. You can spend an hour or two to explore the cave, and the limestone cliffs should be your next destination.
- Rock Climbing
So rock climbing is one adventurous yet fun thing to do especially when you are good at it. There are tall limestone cliffs that you can begin your rock climbing, but the best ones are in Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. You can get the information from local shops to find the safe and proper equipment and guide to rock climbing.
- Maya Bay
The places are closed to each other, you won’t even recognize the difference. Maya Bay is just as beautiful as its surroundings. The special part is you can get closer to the water while admiring the beauty of nature at the same time. Apart from the breathtaking seas and nature, you will also hear the song from cicadas as you go as well.
- Phi Phi Viewpoint
The special thing about Phi Phi Viewpoint is that you will be able to see the whole archipelago right before your eyes. The combination of the beautiful sea and the cliffs as well as the islands make the view simply incredible. A 20-30 minutes hiking up a few hundred steps to see the magnificent landscape of real nature beauty is totally worth the sweat.
Recommendation: It is better to spend the night on Phi Phi Island so that you will be able to have more time to explore everything there. That is because the round-trip cruiser will only leave you a couple of hours for sightseeing and lunch. To be exact, from 11:30AM after arrival to 2:30PM before departure back to Phuket City.
Tips: Don’t forget to bring some snacks to feed the fish in the sea. The boat driver said that doing so will bring you luck during your journey and life. But the best part is seeing the fish comes up close the moment you throw the food in, you really should give that a try.
2Phuket Old Town
Vintage and elegance are the perfect terms to describe Phuket Old Town. The unique thing about the town is the colorful houses along with peaceful traffic that allows you to focus more on this small town. There are many roads that lead to different destinations in the town that you can explore, and all of them are uniquely beautiful.
If you enjoy walking, you might spend an hour or over just to capture the beauty of this town. There are old school arts like graffiti on the walls or buildings; and it is exquisite to see. On top of that, there is a place called Phuket Trickeye 3D that takes arts to the next level as well.
Transportation: The quickest way to reach Phuket Old Town is by taxi which takes about 20 minutes at the cost of 400 Baht. You can either take a taxi back or wait for the bus at the bus station with the price of just 45 Baht. The bus is available at sharp hours like 3PM, 4PM, 5PM, etc.
One of the most beautiful and nearest beaches in Phuket is Patong beach. It is about 20 minutes of walk from the center of the city, and it is beautiful both day and night. The only difference between the time is the crowd. Patong beach will be less crowded in the morning and afternoon, and full of people during the evening and night time.
Patong Market is right across the street from the beach, and it opens from evening till dawn. There you can enjoy some fun alcohol time along with great food as part of the joy of the trip. You can also buy souvenirs, swimming suits, or simply walk around as well. No matter if it is the pubs or the street, you will surely have fun there.
Banzaan Market is the most crowded market in Phuket city, where you can find literally anything. From food to clothes and cosmetics, Banzaan has them all. The main things that you will see are street food and drinks, fruits, clothes, cosmetic products, and snacks. It is always crowded there, but it has everything that you should see and try.
Tips: The food that you should try at least once when you are in Banzaan market are pancakes, sweet potato balls, and pretty much all street food.
Fancy things and products are in Jungceylon. So if you want to buy branding items back home, that big mall is the place for you. The interesting thing about Jungceylon is that it is the classic shopping mall with reasonable price. Outside the mall is surrounded by famous food company like McDonald’s, Swensen, KFC, and more. While the souvenirs and clothes stores await for you inside. The place is pretty big, and it opens every day from 11PM to 10PM.
Da Hood Market is smaller and less crowded compared to Banzaan which is ideal for people who don’t like the crowd. Da Hood is a chilling place that has street food and mini pubs along with music that you can enjoy. Just like most markets in Phuket, Da Hood also has a lot of souvenirs that you can buy as well. It is across the street from Jungceylon and Big C, and the best time to go is in the evening.
Quick Guide For First Timers in Phuket
Internet: There are a lot of mini stalls at the airport that sell SIM cards which offer internet for you. The price are very different, I use ‘dtac’; it is the cheapest yet the internet speed and network is great. Many other SIM choices are also available depends on how long your stay in Thailand is.
Transportation: 2 taxi company stations that sell tickets to different destinations in Phuket are also at the airport. Buy the tickets, and the minibus or taxi will take you to your hotel at a very acceptable price.
